can anyone recommend good current account i need to change

got phone call from halifax yesterday they r stopping doing the account i have with them and advised me i need to change to one of 2 options. first one i have to pay £12.50 per month this offers mobile insurance and travel insurance free.
second i get charged £1 per day if i go in my overdraft. well im in my overdraft approx 20 days of month so tehres £20 a month.
i dont see why i should have to pay either £12.50 or £20 to have a bank account with them. ive been there for years but i think im gonna have to change.
Anyone any banks they could syggest i need them to accomadate an overdraft of £600

Hi, I have a high interest current account with Halifax which does not have any monthly costs and offers the same interest rates as the £12.50 per month account. Sorry to answer a question with a question but is this the one that they are withdrawing?

yes it must be they are only going to have the only 2 accounts from nov i think one is the ultimate thingy at £12.50 per month and then the reward one that u get £5 per month if u dont go overdrawn but if u do ur charged £1 per day
blooming rip off so basically we are being charged to bank with them

I think that MSE Martin was talking about an account a few months ago that was giving £100 to new customers. I think it may have been with Alliance and Leicester but maybe worth checking out the current account section on the main site for the best current accounts that are available now.

I definitely won't be paying them £12.50 per month to bank with them!!

So you are bascially telling me anyday now my high interest account will be done away with and I will be forced to accept one of these accounts? I've received no phone call or no notification of this. If this is the case I shall be looking for another bank.
  • i seen it somewhere a while ago one of the other accounts were closing but the one i have was ok but seems to be affecting it now.
i got this phonecall yesterday from my local branch totally out of the blue asking me to come in and discuss my accounts ive never had a phonecall for a bank in my life. then she started discussing the accounts i told her i was happy with the way everything was and she said the accounts would be changing in nov or dec so i would have to move. ive an appt for beg of sept to go in and discuss but if this is what is happening i will be changing

I have the ultimate reward account and personally cant fault it, there are more benefits than mobile fone and travel insurance. The RAC came out to my mums car cause I was with her, I saved on my house insurance as I had home emergency cover on my ultimate reward, they do up to 55% off holidays with the co-op and I saved approx £525 by booking my holiday with them, plus all the other wee benefits as well.

Each to their own - for me it works - only £3 a month more than I was paying for my mobile fone insurance with another provider! And its more than paid for itself.

But like I say, if you wont take advantage of the benefits then its not the account for you!
