cost of crowns and veneers

I need to replace my veneers and my crowns as they are getting a bit old (12 years)
I have 6 crowns (lower) and 6 veneers (upper)
My dentist (here in St Albans) has quoted £4K for 8 upper veneers and the 6 replacement crowns
Does this sound reasonable?
I had a similar quote from a dentist I saw recently in South Africa the downside is the cost of flights and accom
The upside is I would have an excuse for a couple of weeks in S Africa - so many vineyards, so litle time
My dentist in the UK is a proper dentist - not one of those plastic/smile clinic types. The work would obviously be private - not NHS.
Has anyone had any work of this nature done recently?
If so, how do my quotes compare to your costs?

It would be courteous to discuss your plans with your dentist in the UK and be sure he'd be happy to maintain the new work if you had it done in S.A.
Especially if you've been going there for some time. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Good idea
I only went to the dentist once (well twice actually) as I was there on holiday.
I developed an abscess about 10 days before I went on holiday, my own dentist couldn't see me for 3 weeks so I asked my friend in SA to make an appt with her dentist.
Saw the dentist, had the usual treatment etc and then went back 2 weeks later for the filling and that was when I asked her what her charges were. Apart from the excuse for a holiday there doesn't really seem much advantage
I don't really make a habit of seeing medical practitioners in other countries - honestTotal debt at 01/01/2010 £34,262 (Excludes mega mortgage) Daily interest £12.42
