Our house is on the market and we would like to port our existing mortgage when we move. My lender told me I will basically have to go through the application process again and although they cant guarantee it unless I had gone bankrupt since taking out mym ortgage they would probably let me port it.

I wondered, if I apply for a contract mobile phone before I move house (so before my mortgage co do a credit search on me) do you think this will affect my chances of being able to get the mortgage to enable me to move? I don't want anything to affect the house move so will hold off getting a phone if I have to.

Thanks

Hold off! I have a personal experience of O2 searching me 10 times trying to get a contract to go through!! Was a nightmare!

All things being equal a search from a commuications company would not pose any problems.

    Numerous searches might

But remember, there are no guarantees to porting.

It is based on a new application and their new criteria which will have changed since you took out the mortgage - i.e. income multiples, credit scores, existing debts etc

Soo if things ahve have changed i.e. had children, partner not working etc. it could impact on their decision to agree the porting
