Found some jelly cubes in the cupboard and thought I'd make some milk jelly cos i used to love it as a kid - somehow the milk curdled and I ended up with jelly with weird milk curdley lumps suspended in it :(:(

What did I do?!

Think that you may have added milk while water used to melt the jelly was still too hot....haven't made that for ages, must do it soon...another one my mother used to make was whip a whisked egg white into a cooled jelly she had made with about three quarters the correct amount of water.

My mum used to make milk jelly with half water/half evaporated milk rather than fresh - tried it myself a few years ago and it was lovely:D

I'm sure my mum did too - I vaguely remember her cooling the evap milk until nearly frozen then whipping it loads before mixing together - probably to get a more moussey effect. I made it last Christmas when I was in retro mode and excitedly presented it to husband daughter and son in a 'look how fabulous childhood was x years ago' moment. They all thought it was disgusting! O well, the more for me.

I'm pretty certain that the last time I made 'milky jelly' I did the following:

    1. Break up jelly into squares and add a little water.
    2. Melt in a plastic/pyrex jug in the microwave.
    3. Add cold water to make up to half a pint on the side of the jug.
    4. Add evaporated milk to around 15 - 17 fl ozs (15 for a cheap jelly and 17 for a more expensive one) and then whisk using an electric hand whisk if possible.
    5. Put into a large dish (or individual ones) to set in the fridge.

Could try serving with ordinary jelly in the bottom, milky jelly on the top, swirl of cream (not the squirty stuff) and decorated with crumbled flake, mini marshmallows or sprinkles on the top - phew sugar overload :j:j:j.
