Any Help?

I dont know whether or not this is the right place to post if not can people help or point in the right direction.
I am married with 4 children and currently me or my partner dont work(not through lack of trying)we have debts of over 14,000 how did it get that bad??? Well we have decided that its time to sort everything out after not paying off debts for the last year they have all caught up with us through debt collection,we have sorted out some ourselves, well now its getting tight with what we are having to pay back almost £400.
The problem is my other half had some other debts from 3 years ago which he stopped paying again we split up so he was on jsa i was working these debts must come to another 10,000 we think but at the moment they haven 'found him'
Should we just ignore these debts or try and find out whats happened the last thing we want is to be sorting out our debts then it just gets worse

  • I am no expert - but I would say that things have a habit of catching up on us! I probably wouldn't go looking for the debt - but I would try everything to try and make provisions for them.
Its a difficult one - if you ignore them they'll just get bigger. Where were the debts - are they credit cards companies??

The "missing" debts are no where near time barred and imho you're better off facing up to everything. If you decide you want to go down a DMP, IVA or bankrupcy route, you appear to have £24,000 debts and no income, then it would proably be best to ensure that you include everything so that all your debts come under whichever remedy you choose.

Have you done a Statement of Affairs to see where you actually stand including everything you owe as a couple and any assets you have?
