Went down to Leicester Court today to file my papers. The clerk was very helpful, pointed a few things that needed to be added, which I did. Handed over my money and then they said, "come back tomorrow"
I explained that would be difficult as I had a business appointment "up north". He said "not to worry, its only if the judge wants to see you, which is most unlikely!"
Then I toddled of into town to open a new account. I had decided on Barclays and was help by a very nice Polish lady. I explained I had just filed for bankruptcy. She asked if I had ever had any Barclays products. I thought of the £7K debt on my Barclaycard. Thought do I say no???? Anyhow honesty is the best policy :A so I told her about that. That allowed the system to pull up my details and all of a sudden screens were flashing before my eyes. She asked me a few questions, told her I wanted the basic account. She did say that I would most probably qualify for other accounts but I said no, keep it simple.
Anyhow before I new it she gave me 3 forms to sign, then handed over a sheet of paper. Your account is open and these are the details! :j:T:beer:
As the Meerkats say Simpulls!!!
Just like to say thanks to everyone who helped me through with their words of wisdom and advice.

I see that you were in Leicester I am about to go BR in Leicester but have not had a chance to call them so wondered how long it took to get an appointment or did you just hand in the forms on a turn up basis??
I hope I have as much luck as you with the bank accounts anyway!

OK Leicester operates a turn up and be served system. No need to make an appointment. I went on a Tuesday and the place was not busy at all. No waiting involved. One thing though is they do not do the order there and then. You are asked to return at 09:30 the next day. This is when the actually present the papers to the judge. Caught me out that one.
As to the Bank Account as I said earlier I went straight round to Barclays, opposite Primark. Took about 10 mins in total.
Anyhow good luck and I hope all goes well.
Oh, I had my first call from one of my credit card companies. They were the ones that hadn't accepted my proposal for a reduced payment schedule. Talked with them for at least 30 mins. The person on the end kept on insisting they would only accept x% and nothing less. I took great delieght in eventually telling them that they will have to accept nothin :rotfl::rotfl:. That took the wind out of their sales.
One down 4 to go :rolleyes:tryinghardtosurvive wrote: »I see that you were in Leicester I am about to go BR in Leicester but have not had a chance to call them so wondered how long it took to get an appointment or did you just hand in the forms on a turn up basis??

Sounds as though that £510 was a small price to pay for a 'fresh start', old man.
Also very pleased for you - re Barclays. I need to open an account and, whilst I would 'favour' the Co-op 'cashminder' account, there is no 'Co-op' Bank within 25 miles of where I live.
I think I might 'pop' into Barclays this afternoon - I had thought about them before, but Barclaycard were, also, one of my creditors (albeit one of the smallest) and every time I pass by Barclays, the sight of this 'very austere' looking woman at the 'Customer Service' desk has always put me off.
It's three years since my bankruptcy - during that time I have not had an account - may 'wages' have been paid into my wife's account, but we have resisted the temptation to add my name to the account as we don't want 'joint' financial products. Your comments have reassured me - thanks.
And good luck for the future, and I hope you receive your 'early discharge' soon.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
