Amazon vouchers - worth more than face value?

Three months ago I got a £50 amazon voucher for my birthday, as I was out at the time I gave my cards/pressies to my brother to take home for safe keeping.
Anyway collected all the gifts but my brother said he had the piece of paper with the voucher code in his wallet which he had accidently left at work. I have been pestering constantly since for this, as I wanted to spend it and just got lots of excuses.
Finally, I accused him of spending it himself, to which he said he hadn't but that he had sold it to a guy at work (who hasn't paid him yet) for more than it's face value and was going to give me the £50 and pocket the difference. Apart from the outright lying part and trying to profit from my birthday gift - does this stack up? Why would someone pay more than the face value of the voucher? Does Amazon do special deals where you can make £50 voucher go further?

I've sold a few vouchers last year and they did go for more than the face value, not much more may just a couple of £'s  I just don't understand why people bid more than face value when they could just pay the going rate straight from Amazon.
So yes your brother could be telling but the truth, but very naughty of him to sell behind your back.:mad:2011 Sealed Pot Challenge #1238 hoping for £250 ~ saved £743.32

I don't think Amazon do any deals to make a voucher go further & I see no reason why people would pay more for them
Unless they use them so they don't need to use a credit/debit card online...
I hope he gets the money for your sake...0 -
Bit off topic but does anybody know any websites i can earn amazon vouchers? Or get free ones?
Thanks!0 -
think money laundering lol
use cash/Money in paypal to buy vouchers they then turn into clean useable money
Just done jury service on a money laundering case and moving money around like this is quite commonMortgage overpayments 2008 (started August) £3000 -
On ebay they seem to go for more then they are worth- I asked one of the sellers why on earth they had started their auction for £10 of vouchers at £15, they told me it was because they had many sellers from abroad who had ££ which made it somehow cheaper to buy amazon vouchers for the UK amazon rather then paying through the exchange rate. Not really sure that explained it to me, but could be a reason?0

Its because sellers email the code, buyer spends it, then says they never got it. No PoP when you email after all
at least thats what some of them do.

I'm intrigued why people would pay more than they're worth but here's another theory.
Some people have money in Paypal that they don't want to transfer into their bank account because they are overdrawn and it will get swallowed up so they spend it on amazon vouchers instead - still doesn't explain why they pay more though unless its a supply and demand thing[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]

Ah- that makes sense- people who are saving up for bankrupcy fees and do not have an account, people who are using shared bank accounts and do not want their other half boozing/shopping/smoking it away...
Another theory I had was along those lines- someone who is planning a get-away from said partner/getting their own back on an ex and spending money from their account. Or kids with parents who have more money then sense, do not check their accounts (believe me, I know people who do not actually go through their bank statements:eek:) and so the kids spend where and what they can, not so easy to get hold of mummy&daddy's CC and spend that way, but easy to buy through ebay and spend that way, and if what you want is not on ebay, it will be on Amazon.0
