House prices have to drop to the point that even someone on minimum wage can afford a 3 bed semi.

I actually don't see how this would improve house prices, I would think that many on the lists looking for social housing would be the ones not able to afford/not be suitable for, mortgages.
As for overcrowding, why is it now the norm to have a bedroom per child? My grandparents had a 3 bedroom house and 11 children and managed perfectly well.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Wordplay is popular, a clever in-reference to a long standing joke or thread on the board always gets a smile and an unexpected, shocking 'spit your drink' out line is always welcome. Well to be fair, it's only the last 10 years were greed overtook sense and this stopped happening, luckily the market is cyclic and I should be able to buy my second home in two/three years - when the price is right, again.0 -

You need to understand what supply and demand are before trying to do simplistic economic analysis.
PS Does this really make you laugh out loud?
Do you think the housing market has followed the normal definition of supply and demand - to me, it appears to have done the opposite. (Though I could be just being dense here)
Normally you would expect to see less people buying when prices are high - we have had more.
People wanted a house at any price.
Banks were falling over themselves to lend with very small deposits
You could make a quick return on your money.
You would have expected to see more people buying when prices are low. But:
People are not buying because the prices may fall further - you can see that on here.
Deposits have to be much larger
Mortgages are hard to come by
You won't get a quick return on your money.
I suppose though, if you want to sell your house and the price is low enough - you probably will sell it.
So, I suppose my point is that the housing market seems pretty complex as far as supply and demand goes - it's not quite the same as Comet reducing the price of a 50inch plasma to £100.
I don't suppose I've explained myself very - but do you see where I'm coming from.
