I hope someone can help me to help a friend.
My friend took a loan out about 7 yrs ago. She has now paid the debt if not more but the company (Global Debt Recovery) is still taking money each month from her account. She contacted the bank to cancel what she thought was a direct debit to be told by the bank that the recovery agency must have her bank and card details as they are taking the money from her card (not direct debit/standing order). How can she stop the company still taking money?
Thanks

Sounds like she must have given GDR debit card details at some point.
The only way to stop this is to contact GDR and get them to do it their end - if that fails then ask her bank to cancel the debit card - but that is often unsuccessful and can lead to bank charges etc.
GDRs contact number is 020 8336 7000Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

Thanks Rafter, I've passed GDR number on to her and they said they will cancel it at their end.0

About 10 years ago (2000) when I was young, free, single and stupid, I'd had enough of England and sold everything I owned and went travelling around America. I left owing about £700 on a credit agreement with Halfords for a car stereo system.
I came back after a year, and heard nothing from them until around 2004 when the debt was passed to Global Debt Recovery Ltd who sent me a letter. I contacted them to confirm this was all genuine and they proved to me it was the Halfords debt they were chasing, and we agreed a reduced figure of around £400 which I paid in full by cheque and that was the end of the matter.
Fast forward 6 years to now, and they have sent me another letter (to my mothers address where I used to live in 2000) asking for another £1057! I haven't got any paperwork from when I paid them back in 2004, so am wondering what is the best thing to do. Should I just ignore them, as they have no idea where I am living now and they are clearly trying it on as I paid them 6 years ago. Or should I contact them via post? If so, what should I say in the letter?
Any ideas?0
