I always soak them overnight. I do mine in the slow cooker and find soaking works best using this method. I love yellow split peas and red lentils in curries. I use Patak's creamed coconut sachets, bought when on special offer and I like to sprinkle flaked almonds over a coconut based curry.
However, if you do your curry on the hob it probably is not necessary. Sometimes I have decided to do a curry at short notice, not allowing time for soaking or slow cooking. I then do them in a large pot on top of the stove and have found that I can still use split yellow peas allowing a cooking time of 1 - 1 1/2 hours.0 -
