Happy day!

:TJust received my Early Discharge Notice this morning!

Completely unexpected as I only became bankrupt on the 2nd March 2009! Please let me assure anyone contemplating or even going through bankruptcy at this moment that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that this moment of elation is compensation for five years of sleepless nights and churning stomach! Bankrupty is not an easy solution but it is a solution and the only way out for many. I got in debt through undertaking two degrees at Uni but I worked out that since I had graduated, I had paid the total debt nearly one and a half times but I was only paying interest so I would have been paying off my debt until I probably retired.

Now that I am calming down, can anyone please let me know about the next steps. Do I photocopy the notice and send to credit agencies such as Experian?

Many thanks in advance for your help :j

Yep. I did. They put an extra entry in the BR section to record the order of discharge and it's date, so worth doing.

  • Thanks again for your help and congratulations. I'm off work so I've photocopied the notice and attached a covering letter to send to Experian and Equifax. I would have a drink to celebrate but I'm four and a half months pregnant so will have to console myself with marking maths coursework :-(

    Congratulations on your ED.
Just a little question. Have you had your zero tax code? If so do you know if that stays until the end of the financial year? I went BR in June so am a little further behind you. I havent had my zero tax code from the inland revenue yet but have had the letter from moon beaver telling me how to pay when I do get it etc.
Also which OR office were dealing with your case? My case is with Leicester. I just wondered as it varies so much from each OR office.
My main question is that would a zero tax code prevent me getting ED.
Hope someone on here can answer this.
    Thank you

I was lucky and never received a zero tax code; I wonder if this was anything to do with going bankrupt just before end of Tax Year - March 2nd? The OR office was originally Liverpool and they were dreadful, I ended up having to contact my creditors to inform them of my bankruptcy months after! However, the office is now in Newcastle-under-Lyme and I find them much more competent and better informed. Sorry I can't answer your question relating to zero tax code and ED but I wish you the best of luck in getting one!

If you received a nil tax code then it will run until the end of the tax year or if you change jobs - it has nothing to do with ED.

studensaver - you are correct, you didn't receive a nil tax code because you went BR so late in the tax year.

    CONGRATULATIONS on your ED!
