Tricky one spud...Have they had anyone come into school to talk about it recently? Its such a hard thing to talk about but its her health too, especially if she is using tampons with TSS!

They're way beyond that from what she's told me about the PSHE lessons they have  :o

She isnt using tampons yet, but has asked about them.

Makes me think I should've just sat back and either let her have a really embarrassing accident someday, or get some sort of infection :(

You have done the right thing hun. She will at some point talk about it or get into some kind of routine. I remember not having great hygene at that age, I think its down to having to use school toilets and timing it in breaks, lunch and there not being enough time. Its probably habit she's got into, but one she needs to get out of.

How about if she is interested in using tampons you get her some info on TSS and then she might realise she will have to change more frequently or it could kill her essentially. (very unlikely but risk is still there IKSWIM)

You did the right thing Spud, if she's not maintaining good hygiene with pads then tampons could be really dangerous. Have many of her friends got theirs yet? The novelty of being grown up has probably worn off now and it's starting to become a chore - like shaving your legs - so she is trying to ignore it in the same way teenagers don't clean their rooms. She'll get used to it.

Oh Spud, I remember a similar conversation with my mum (although it was more about having baths, I had a 'thing' about having a bath at that time of month). Maybe talk to her at a different time of month, when she might take it more rationally? And come from the angle of what her friends'll think - that's probably more important to her than anything to do with infections. And point out that it's 'nicer' (less messy) to change earlier and more often.

Totally not on of OH though, especially when he doesn't know all the facts, since he wasn't around. Maybe he's just not comfortable with his little girl needing those kinds of talks? If so then he should just leave it to you and not interfere at all though.

LQ, I haven't been to Whitby in ages, I really love it up there too. It was on my list of places to visit this summer.

I'd had 'the chat' with DD by that age, but DS seems to be way behind her in the hormone stakes.

I understand the school toilet issue, we've talked about that before but I've always asked her to make sure it's the first thing she does when she gets home. She's been home all day, and not done it once.

Cor blimey I feel really  now

Skint, that's great... obviously he hasn't realised that fake penises mean no need for men at all!

Gemmzie, you mean shaving your legs is something you're supposed to do regularly, not just when you're wearing a skirt?!
