please help - temporary job in relation to getting a mortgage

hi all
my hubby and i are desperate to buy something so we can stop renting
we both work full time, but at the moment my contract with social services is temporary to cover long term sickness absence.
it really doesn't look like this girl is coming back to work, so we all feel confident that i will get a permanent job, but who knows when?!knowing social services it'll be months or even a year.

my hubby doesnt earn enough for us to borrow what we need on his salary alone - is there any chance of mine being taken into account when applying for mortgages ? i've phoned the halifax just because they have a free enquiry line and she told me no, not with them, unless my emplyerwould guarantee in writing that i'll be made permanent.
fact is even if i get laid off i will have to find another job, and in the meantime we could manage mortgage payments on tony's wage alone at a pinch for a few months. we dont want to borrow a vast amount, but it's 3 times our combined earnings.

anyone any thoughts?

  • Hi Me and my husband are in the same position

    He is currently temporary

    I earn £23k per year
He is on a temporary contract of £35k p.a.
    We want t o buuy a house worth £160k
We want a mortgage of £130k (£30k deposit)

I've already seen one broker that said i would not be able to get a mortgage on my own earnings.

Is there anyway we can stop renting and get a mortgage for the above?

    Thanks x

Without knowing your full details it is difficult to say.

It will be very tight getting a mortgage on your income alone - but you could get close. Some lenders may even take your husbands income account and therefore agree the mortgage for you.
