Someone I know has just lost their partner - been together over 30yrs but never married.
Now the estate want her out of the house, which means she will be homeless. She has very little income: pension and benefits coming to around £200 pw.
There is also an existing interest only mortgage (like the halifax retirement home plan) with around £80,000 owing on a £100,000 property.
Any thoughts on a way out?

From what you say in the first post if the mortgage is on interest only and was in the sole name of the deceased then the estate have little option surely than to sell the property to repay the mortgage owed?
This isn't something that is being done vindictively is it, just a case of having to settle the debt?
What is the intention for the equity have they indicated that they will share some of that with her even though intestacy probably dictates it will go elsewhere?
She should contact the council/shelter/age concern etc for advice but if she is going to be made homeless then she will be assisted with housing.
On that sort of income and her age (I am assuming on the more mature side as already in receipt of pension) why would she want to try and struggle with a massive mortgage, not that one is likely to be given on that sort of income.
What advice has the partner been given by the solicitor?I am a Mortgage Adviser
