My butcher charges about the same if not a bit more, but his prices are a little high -great quality though and all local. I think you have accept that free range chicken is expensive. We eat it about once a fortnight.0

I bought two free-range chickens from Lidl last week for £3 each. It is the first time I've bought meat from Lidl as I had previously assumed it would be rubbish and would have had a horrible life. However as they were free range I thought I'd give them a try and they were lovely :-)
Not very big mind...1.4kgs.Tess x

We tried a Lidl one not long ago, small like you said - thought it was a bit greasy, alot of fat under the skin, but otherwise ok. It kind of had the texture of Guinea Fowl...0 -
Lidl seem to be consistently £1 or so cheaper than other supermarket free range chicken. I have only seen whole birds, not legs, thighs etc. We often buy them and they are fine.0

Aldi do free range chickens and are around £5 for a 1.5kg bird.
We tend to get our free range chickens from abel and cole if you look on grabbit board at the mo theres an offer on with abel and cole.0 -
Supermarket free range chickens are usually pretty tiny. We get ours from our butcher. Usually get something like a 2.5kilo bird for around £7-£8.0
