I need a new bank

Hello everyone, this is my first post so be gentle!

I have recently been in touch with Payplan. My first payment is due soon but they can't accept my standing order mandate as it is with my bank who I owe debt too - they can freeze my account I am told so it is urgent that I get a new bank. For the time being, I am paying by Paypoint.

I have already been turned down by HSBC and Smile so I don't know where else to try. Obviously I only want a basic account with no overdraft, but I do need a debit card and cheque book.

Are there any banks you would recommend that would accept me? I've no CCJs but have had warnings of them.

Natwest step account is pretty popular for people in your position?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

My fiance got an account with Royal Bank of Scotland without any problems, give them a try and see what happens
  • Wow, thank you for the quick replies!

Unfortunately Natwest is who I am with at the moment, sorry I should have mentioned that. I am just worried they will take all of my wages. Surely I have rights against that?

Definately try Royal Bank of Scotland, I know they are the same group, but my fiance is currently going through CCCS and they advised him to move all his money to RBS.

    Or maybe Nationwide
  • Thank you bunnie - I will try them both!

This is a guide to basic bank accounts

    Lots of people to try!

    EDIT:
However re: cheque book and switch - fairly common for there to be a six month wait for this, especially if the reason you need an account is money problems. Realistically you *might* be looking at buying postal orders for times when cash won't do...
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.
