Cake and eggs question

I was given a dozen eggs earlier by a neighbour who is going on holiday tomorrow so can't use them up.
They are from a local farm so don't have date stamps on, but I tested them for freshness by putting them into a jug of water and none of them floated.
I have used 6 to make 2 sponge cakes (one for now and one to freeze) which are in the oven now. When I cracked one of the eggs there was a bit of a smell to it, not unpleasant and certainly not like rotten eggs, but definitely a slight smell. As I had tested them in water I put it in anyway. The cakes are now cooking and I can still smell this slight smell.
Do you think they will be OK? As I say they should be OK as they didn't float, but on the other hand I don't want to give anyone food poisoning!

I've taken the cakes out of the oven now and I can still smell the smell very faintly, but it isn't a horrible smell.
If the egg was off will the cake taste funny? Was thinking I could try a bit first myself to see if it tasted strange before giving it to everyone else?0
