cat claws

Please help.. i have 2 indoor cats(brother and sister) they are adorable and very loving, main problem Saskia scratches the walls and not her post, which has created alot of damage she is almost 2, i have tried everything possible to get her to stop..then i heard about cat clips which are put over the claws and come in a variety of colours, i just wondered if anybody had used them as my vet wants to charge me  £80.00  to put them on as she may struggle and therefore need to be sedated..it's still cheaper than re-decorating the walls every time but too pricey as they only cost £15.00..wanted to see if any mse had fitted them on to their cats themselves, if so was it easy ?

Try the Old Style board too for advice on some herbs or scents you might use on the wallpaper to repel them, should be undetectable to our noses but the cats should be able to smell them
I think olbas oil or something works but check with the gurus first :)

    Hi tina68,

We have a few cats but never had your particular dilema. We've found that if they find something they don't like they'll leave well alone - scrunched up carrier bags, foil (they hate foil!!!) or if your normally in get a spary bottle filled with water and spray them with it as they do it.

Or maybe try an alternative scratch post (they normally love wood) or maybe move the one you've got.

    Never heard of cat clips.

    Good luck ;)

Thanks Wizwoo, i will try foil as my wooden tables have sctatches on them too, the thing is you can never quite catch her when she does it..my bedroom wallpaper has completely had it on 1 wall and it almost goes right to the ceiling feel like carpeting the walls haha

    Hiya,

It's possible to get some sticky strips to put on the wall, so when the cat scratches it's paws kinda stick, but they don't get actually stuck! It stops them quickly. Also they hate citrus smells, maybe rub something on the wall? I'd try the strips before the pink claws! Will try to find a site about these

I am damn sure my 3 would have my eyes out if I so much as hinted at sticking day-glo pink covers on their claws! Have to say I am a little disturbed by the thought... (though it is better than 'de-clawing' them, which is a common practice in America, and cruel beyond belief in my eyes, but thats another matter!)

Years ago I had a problem with one of mine clawing the sofa, but a bit of regular discipline**, and eucalytus oil, diluted and sprayed onto the surface she was clawing soon put a stop to it, and none of them have ever done it since!

Mine do go out though, so keep their claws trim climbing trees etc. I take it there is no chance yours could go out? (It'd save money on cat litter too ;))

** regular discipline being me telling her off in a fairly stern tone, and then picking her up and removing her from said object - thats all it takes, and no more than a handful of times before they twig that scratching furniture is a no-no!

  • I'm sorry but what you are suggesting is cruel to your cat. Sratching is part and parcel of owning a cat it is a natural instinct. The humane option is cat scratching posts with catnip to attract the moggies or regular nail trimming at the vets.
