When you contract out of serps/S2p, it goes into protected rights. Personal contributions (or employer) goes into ordinary rights (or sometimes called non-protected rights)

Lol- So what is being protected ?I have just received notification that my Annuity is now set up and it still quotes these terms .
As of May 2nd ,I get a monthly pension at the grand age of 41.
Is it still protected /non protected .

There are different requirements for annuities payable from protected rights funds. For instance, the annuity rate is a unisex one, and a protected rights fund must provide a spouse's pension if the individual is married.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
