Difficult to get a mortgage if not British?

I wondered if anyone here knows if it is difficult to get a mortgage on a property in England if you are not a British Citizen.
My ex-partner is Greek but has lived in England for the last 5 years, he is working and pays tax and NI here. He has a UK bank account with LloydsTSB.
He is thinking about buying a property here (he has one in Greece) and asked if it would be difficult for him to get a mortgageover here. I explained that if he can get a mortgage here they usually give a mutiple of salary (is it still about 3 x ?) and that he would need at least 5% deposit plus legal fees etc, but I reaaly have no idea whether being Greek would make any difference to him getting a mortgage.
I know that some of you guys on this board deal in mortgages so I thought someone might have knowledge in this area.

There should not be a problem for any EU citizen, given the circumstances outlined, as far as I know. I work with a Greek who married a German and they got a UK mortgage no problem.

Being Greek should not be a problem towards him getting a mortgage.
As long as it is affordable to him and his income can justify the loan then there should be no reason for him not to get a mortgageI am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
