Refilling Coffee Pods

Hi, i'm not 100% sure this is the right place for this thread.
I've recently been bought a Nespresso coffee machine and as i'm sure your all aware the pods are quite expensive so i've started refilling them with posh ground coffee.
I do this by cutting out the foil on the bottom, refilling them with coffee and then placing a double layer of tin foil on the bottom and pinching it around.
I've also heard that once the pods have been cleaned they are useful for planting seeds and the coffee can be used as compost.
Obviously this helps the environment as well as the pocket. The aluminium can then be recycled i believe.
I was curious if anyone else has done and whether it reduces the life of the machine in anyway?
Thanks for any info.

I think that's a brilliant idea. I haven't tried it but will now. Can't think that it would hurt the machine since aluminium foil (even several layers) has got to be thinner than the 'proper' pod seal surely ? Clever you !!!!!!
  • Hiya - have you continued with this? Any ill effects?

You can actually buy re-usable pods if youd prefer not to put foil in the machine. I brought some for Hubs for Christmas although he hasnt used them as yet as he is still enjoying the pods that came with the machine.

Can you say where you got these from? My sister has a Tassimo and wondered if the would be compatible?

I have Senseo on the way to me but I have already bought the rectifiable filters.

Why not buy a non-pod coffee maker in the first place? That would seem the most economic method of all?

Pop 'Coffeeduck ESPRESSO refillable Capsules' in the search on ebay and they come up :)
