An elderly friend had tiles blown off by high winds in July, is there any way of getting a record of the winds etc. then for insurance purposes? She is in Belfast if that makes any difference.

  • Make sure it's worth claiming for as by the time you pay any excess and considering the policy may go up then you may be just better getting it fixed off your own back..

The insurance company should have a way of checking weather records. We had to claim for storm damage to our property a few months ago, and the guy just asked what date the damage had happened, then said, "I'll just check the records...oh, yes, it was very stormy, wasn't it!" - it was all sorted with very little effort.
  • WE had a terrible experience with our insurers after our Dormer roof was damaged a few years back in horrendous weather -they used their "UK records" which did not show any bad weather in our area and they refused to pay out. Good luck with your claim though!
Feel free to thank me, it makes my toes tingle and my ears go warm :T
  • This new search site may help http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=weather+belfast+6+july+2009. (It was mentioned on various tv programes and in newspapers etc so nothing dodgy!)
