Hiya, everyone on this site seems so lovely but as I read through threads some were created months ago even a year ago and it's difficult to contribute as I dont really know whats going on!
So I wondered if there is any other newbies here like myself who wanted to share their journey with me!
Whats your story? Whats your aims / targets? what are you doing to beat your debts? Any good advice?

            Hi Moneytroubles!
I'll join you! I agree that everyone here is lovely but I am finding it really hard to find my way around the site, there is just sooooo much stuff on it! My brain goes to mush trying to read so much info!
I am not in a huge amount of debt compared to some, but it's a large enough amount for me to struggle day to day. All the debt is in my name as oh went bankrupt last year after struggling for a few years with debts left from his marriage to ex. I am self employed, and had no work for the last 6 months up til now, but that should hopefully be changing in the next 2 weeks!:T
My main aim is not to clear my debt in record time, but instead keep our heads above water, don't let the credit record get any worse, and save as much money as possible so when teh next emergency crops up, we don't get ourselves even further in debt that we can't pay! All while continuing to pay off what we owe, if it gets paid earlier than expected then thats a big bonus!!!:cool:0 -
            Hello!
I'll also join! I return to uni next month to do my teacher training so my main aim is to really try and cut down on my spending and try and save money for the future! I do tend to fritter money away. I don't have huge debts compared to some people but do have an overdraft and two loans, although one finishes in November
Hubby has a few debts though (starting from before and when we got together) so trying to get those in order and aiming to pay off within the next 3 years or so if possible!"I don't want to make money, I just want to be wonderful."

Hi thanks for replying! The site is abit daunting isn't it! I've just started a diary too, as I haven't spoke to anyone regarding mine and other halfs debts and have spent months of worrying and crying myself to sleep
so its nice to get it down in words somewhere!
A few days ago it just clicked! and I realised feeling sorry for myself wont change my situation and so i turned to this site!
Good luck in your debt free journey!!:j6 debts cleared since joining MSE:j:eek: Remaining debts... Very / Halifax Loan/ A&L / Virgin cc / Lloyds / Sister :smileyheaGetting Married 04.12.10 - The MSE way :smileyhea:dance: Making this house a home :dance:0 -

Good Luck to you x:j6 debts cleared since joining MSE:j:eek: Remaining debts... Very / Halifax Loan/ A&L / Virgin cc / Lloyds / Sister :smileyheaGetting Married 04.12.10 - The MSE way :smileyhea:dance: Making this house a home :dance:0 -
            A fellow student!
When i did my degree a couple of years ago I had four lectures a week and I actually worked quite alot for an agency working in childcare and schools in my spare days. I found this to be fine- as long as you're organised and use your time wisely. In my last year I went part time and worked full time in a school (i had evening lectures) and again didn't find this a problem, although I did give up work for the last 6 months to do dissertation and a placement.
Think it really depends on the type of degree and job you do and how disciplined you are! If you think about it, so many students spend most of their time in the pub there is time to work if you want to

My thoughts exactly, my friend advised me not to worry about the first year as there is plenty of time for drinking (she still lives with parents) I advised her that I wouldn't have time for drinking as when im not at Uni I will be at work!
I've reduced to my contract to 30 hours however there is always loads of overtime so i can do more if i need to (did 50 hours last week!), will have to wait till i get my timetable and see how i get on

Very true, we just had to pass our first year as we were told the grades wouldn't affect our overall degree classification at the end so you should definately be fine with working!
was it your post that said you were getting married soon or was that someone else?

hi folks. Everyone on here is new at some point so don't be worrying. As you have already mentioned there are lots of diaries that can help you by looking at other people's journeys. THere are loads of forums and eventually you will find ones that you enjoy more than others. JUst dive in on the threads that are already running. THere will hardly be any people on them who have been there since the beginning anyway. Everyone will welcome you with open arms. Good luck and enjoy the support.5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.000 -
Yeah I am getting married soon! Still owe about £5000 though - eeeekk
Thought about cancelling and sodding off to Vegas but we would still have to pay the final balance, so we are currently trying to pull that money together, mainly by ebaying and car booting also I started a new job with a higher wage a couple of weeks ago so i'm hammering the hours in and we have some money saved too!
To be fair its prob daft of me trying to become debt free while planning a wedding but I just need to feel we are getting somewhere, as stupid as it sounds we didnt even realise how much debt we were in till about a week ago when we sat and worked it out!!
A loan here and over draft there soon adds up :-(:j6 debts cleared since joining MSE:j:eek: Remaining debts... Very / Halifax Loan/ A&L / Virgin cc / Lloyds / Sister :smileyheaGetting Married 04.12.10 - The MSE way :smileyhea:dance: Making this house a home :dance:0 -
I think alot of people don't realise how much they owe until they sit down at work it out so don't feel silly!
We got married in April but had a really small wedding- didn't want a fuss with family stuff, etc and plus pretty hopeless at saving so didn't cost much! (something we NEED to do!)
Hope it all gets sorted, just think you'll have a really fantastic day to remember at the end of it. Really sounds like you're doing everything you can to get it all sorted!
