I'm hoping someone can advise please! I am in the process of trying to find a childminder to mind my little boy in our home home one day/week. He has some additional needs (medical) but is otherwise a typical 2 year old. I know all of the safety checks etc that I should be doing and I also know what to ask potential candidates for the job but I am at a loss as to what I should be paying per hour/day. I know the average hourly rate for a childminder when they are minding in their own home but have been unable to get an answer from anyone as to what a reasonable rate of pay is for someone to mind my child in my own home. I'm really hoping that someone here will have some experience of this. Thanks! Cat.

Hi! not sure about fees/prices but have you looked at the NI Childminders Association website, it has lots of useful information for minders and parents?

Hi Cat
Sorry no experience but as they are minding in your home as opposed to theirs - it limits their ability to mind other children so I'd expect minimum wage to be normal.
Maybe try the family board for a better scope of people

Hi Cat,
The process for registering as a Home Childcarer (neccessary if you want to claim tax credits or use childcare vouchers) can take some time - they will need to have completed an approved course as well as gained an approved H +S certificate beore they can register.
We have a Home Childcarer for 20 - 30 hours per week and pay in excess of £7.00 / hour. Given the small number of hours you are offering, I would think you would need to offer at least this level to attract good quality applications. Don't forget you will be their employer so you will have to take off Income Tax and National Insurance. There are some agencies can help you with this as well as preparing a contract of employment (another legal requirement).
Hope this helps.I'm hoping someone can advise please! I am in the process of trying to find a childminder to mind my little boy in our home home one day/week.
