in Cutting tax
I started my self employment last february, and paid my tax for 07-08.
I ceased my freelance business March 6th '09 as I started full term employment March 9th '09.
My tax calculation for 08'-09' appears as follows:
Total income of which tax is due: £11,266
Total Income tax and Class 4 NI contributions due: £2,830.16.
This all makes sense to me, but then it asks for £4,245.16 to be paid by Jan 31st '10, and an extra £1,145 to be paid by July 31st '10. Because they appear to want to charge me for an estimation of 09-10 tax.
But I don't understand why I should pay this extra amount as I ceased self employment before the end of the '08-'09 tax year? I even filled out the area saying that I ceased my business and started a new job. PLEASE HELP! I'm going to call them tomorrow, but wanted to know where I stand.
Many thanks.
