Also you not only get the flexibility of when you work but you are able to work all over the hospital, my local hospital has it's own bank staff employment offices. Worth a look if you think it's a job for you. I will let you know more once I start, which will hopefully be the weekend.0

Thanks all for your replies i didn't expect so much help and advice! I looked at the New Deal thingy but it looks like you need to be claiming jobseekers? I have seen some other things on that site that i am going to read up on later when the kids are in bed. I have tried to see if we are entitled to anything before but hubbys wage and savings are just over the threshold the man on the phone said i would only get help with childcare costs etc if i were in prison?! DOn't think i will try that out tho!
Yes i did think about our hospital, i like places like that (used to work at a vets) i just need to get over the fact that my hubbys mother and other ex friends and relatives work there and they can't talk to me (left their religion), it still hurts us which is why i decided not to volunteer out there when they were asking for people 9i know i need to get over it!). I am thinking of ringing the local jobcentre and seeing what they have to say, if i can access their advisors or if its only for particular people. Although we aren't entitled to help we are really careful with our money but it doesn't cover everything and we have to keep dipping into our v depleted savings!grocery challenge jan 17 £ / 350.000 -

Yes, that's my understanding. But I understand that you can sign up for Jobseeker's Allowance simply due to you being available for work. Certain "benefits" then kick in, automatically.

Thanks Debtfreechick. I went on their website and entered alot of questions about us all, in the end it told me i could be eligible for it but only if i've been paying national insurance for the last two years, which i haven't as we couldn't afford it! When hubby rang them up before the man did say i'd only get help for childcare costs if i was in prison or not with hubby! I don't mind not getting money help its just advice from somewhere i really need to how to go about getting back into work.grocery challenge jan 17 £ / 350.000

I was going to suggest the hospital bank too, but see I've been beaten to it. My local hospital very recently did a recruitment drive to get a bank of Admin/clerical staff. You could be called to work anywhere in the hospital at short notice. This would suit you, but will also benefit as would give you the chance to prove your ability on the job which may well lead to a permanent job when you are ready? Hospital interviews also tend to be more informal so a good chance to build up your interview confidence
I also second the advice to sign on. I am not entitled to receive the £64.30 per week, due to my OH working full time and earning above their threshold. I still sign on though as it ensures my NI credits are paid, and by doing so I am entitled to say I am signing on. This allows me to receive free prescriptions and also heavily subsidised courses at my local college (income based JSA only) which you could use to get extra skills. I would advise you to speak to DWP asap if you want to start a college course in September. It will take a couple of weeks before you will receive your entitlement letter from DWP, and you will need to produce this at the college before they will let you enrol at the concessionary rate. If there is a course you fancy, don't miss out by leaving things too late
A final suggestion from me, is perhaps being a Childminder if your house is big enough to accomodate this? I have no idea how you would go about this, what training you need etc, but it would solve your problems re childcare as you would obviously have your kids with you
Good luck, but no way are you too old to make something of yourself at 37!0
