My husband & I are also staying in UK this year due to our 1st mortgage... I'd recommend you only pack the following and buy the rest when you get there:
- Can opener & bottle opener
- Tea towels x 2
- Condiments - Decant some salt, pepper, mustard, ketchup etc
- Decant some shampoo, conditioner, body wash and washing up liquid (Superdrug sell some excellent empty travel pots & bottles for this)
- Your make up/wash bags
- Clothes including swimming costume if you will be near water - British weather could surprise you!
- One large pan, small pan and fryign pan (but check as there may be some in the flat already)
- Small radio (check if they already have one)
- Rucksack for days out
These bits will mean you don't have to buy them all over again - the rest you can get when you get there. Best thing is to check with the providers of the flat what is included and what facilities are nearby - then research the net.
The least you take with you the more relaxed you will be - enjoy your holiday ;o)

Go shopping a few days before your trip. Buy lots of things that are NEVER seen in your cupboards and that your OH won't eat eg Smash. Buy 3 great big bottles of squash for a few days holiday, even though they clutter up the sides of the small kitchen in your home and don't fit into the wine rack that you usually use for holding squash. When asked about it reply "I bought it so we could take one on holiday .
Buy a large bottle of salad cream even though none of your other shopping indicates you are going to eat so much as a lettuce leaf whilst away.
Buy a pack of 80 tea-bags even though you have plenty in the jar at home:rolleyes:
Buy 2 large packs of cheese, so you can open one now and take the other unopened one with you, leaving the first to go mouldy in the fridge whilst you're away
Finally spend £100 on the shopping, forget your wallet and have to ask to borrow money off your 82 year old grandma in law who you've taken shopping with you and thankfully she has enough money on her to pay :A
Can you tell that DH was trusted to do the shopping for our forthcoming holiday:wall:0
