I need to buy a new Lawn Mower

My lawn mower has just about had it. Still cuts the grass OK but spews cuttings all over the lawn, so a right mess.

So we are going to have to buy a new one, and wondered if anyone has seen mowers reduced any where yet as it is the end of the season.

We currently have an orange Flymo Hover mower, cant say I have been too impressed with it, so would probably like to try a rotary this time. Medium sized lawn. Dont want petrol as we had one once before and I could never get the thing started!

I would be very grateful if anyone could post any lawn mower reductions they have spotted.
MAny thanks in advance!

ooh, you beat me too it. just watched OH strimming the grass. he is obsessed with the strimmer, he has 2. we have just moved in together and he is a horder and im not, therefore Im not allowed to get rid of one of the strimmers because 'we might need them both'.

he has a strange idea that leaving grass cuttings on the lawn is ok and good for it. i dont believe that and in any case it gets dragged in on our feet, the cats feet, the dogs feet. he is also very good at chopping bits out of the lawn as a strimmer really isnt the tool for the job

so, i have decreed that we are getting mower, but the problem is that our lawn is miniscule, its an L shape of about 5' by 5', plus about 9' by 10', so we really dont need a big mower and i want something very compact.

ive seen few compact flymos in b and q, but reading the customer reviews, they are not rated very well. i checked on which, but their best buys are these great big mowers, obviously for bigger gardens and much bigger sheds than we have!

    any ideas??

I've just bought myself a Bosch Rotak 40 to replace my Mountfield & can recommend it for medium sized lawns. Also B&Q have reduced it in price from £149 - £97 (it's £129 in Argos).......

I bought one of these in the M&S online Xmas sale and just started using it this season. I am very happy with it. I have previously used a Flymo Compact hover and a Qualcast electric cylinder mower. This beats both of them hands down.

Just picked one up at a local B and Q. Noticed it is one of the Which Best Buys for medium to large lawns, at a target price of £130. Like the look of a two year gurantee as well.

    Fingers crossed!

Weve recently switched from Flymo to Bosch and got a Rotak 32 (I think) and its great but on the minus side of things it means I have no excuse not to mow the lawn now as it collects all the grass and doesnt 'fly'out of the mower!!!
Opinions are like ar*eholes - everybody has one!!!! :D

Yes, but don't you find that with the height adjustment you can cut it so short that it doesn't need doing that often? That's what I didn't like about my Flymo - it just couldn't cut the grass short enough. And the Qualcast cylinder latterly just chewed the grass and then flattened it with the rear roller. The Rotak is great compared to those.

I'm (almost) looking forward to the next time my lawn needs cutting to have a go with my new mower. Then I see sense!!
