Can't get connected to internet after fresh install of windows xp

Today my husbands laptop kept shutting down for no apparent reason.
We have read maybe it's getting too hot and needs the vents cleaning out etc.
We haven't done this as we haven't no access to them, nor have any of that compression spray stuff.

He decided to reinstall windows xp again which it has done, but now he can't connect to the internet at all.
We have used the set up network wizzard and the shared connection thing.
We have a wireless router which we use two desk top pcs and 2 laptops on.
We have tried everything we can, so if anybody could hep, we would appreciate it.

Get a newer model. As for the laptop, I have no inspiration.

  • Right click on my computer, go to properties, click on hardware, then device manager.

under the network section is there any yellow triangles next to anything. infact there shouldnt be triangles next to anything. If there is then get the drivers from the laptop manufactures website. If you need some more help then post back.

when you get the drivers there will proberly be a setup.exe in the folder, just run that.

There are loads of question marks, so he is going to insert a disc called network recovery.
Then if that doesn't work, I will have to write the drivers to a disc as he can't get on the internet to update the drivers.
  • yup, you need to get the drivers sorted out. I cant see network recovery sorting the drivers out.

can you get connected using an ethernet cable to the router, or is the driver for your network card one of those that's duff ??

You only need the network adaptor driver, once that is working, you can download a fresh new set of updated drivers off the interweb.

they will need the network controller driver too. Without that neither wired or wireless will work. It usally comes with the Chipset drivers.
