Please think carefully about those you leave behind. My brother emigrated to Canada 30 years ago with his wife and children she was born in england but parents Canadian) I was ten at the time our mum was a widow and we have one older sister.
He had loads of debts and he didnt tell us that he was emigrating until the Friday as they were going on the Monday, he even went to work that day, the same place mum worked and didnt breathe a word to anyone there.
when he got to Canada he wouldnt let anyone have his address in case the people he owed money to managed to contact him there, my sister has not spoken to him since, my mum ended up being hounded for all his debt, and had to tell the people he worked with that he had left and then found out he owed some of his work colleagues money too, so she ended up paying them as well.
All in all it split him from the familly completely, so please please think of those you leave behind0 -

i'm sure you need to prove that you have the finances to support yourself before you are granted a visa. and that money cannot have come from loans/credit cards etc.
£4k isn't really that much in the grand scheme of things and if i remember correctly the amount of savings you need for the visa application is more than this anyway so if you had enough to prove you can support yourself for the visa then you could easily pay off your debts.
don't mean to be harsh but this sounds like a cowards way out. you have spent the money and now you don't want to pay it backGoals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -
You definitely have to have means to support yourself when you emigrate to either aus or nz. This has to be proven as well. Ie you send in bank statements with your visa application. Have you actually got a job over there? You are not meant to enter the country on a visitors visa and then try and get a job.....I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

That's good to hear - and it will probably be a lot easier than you think, codyne.
You never know if you might need to return to this God forsaken country and, although your Australian Credit Reference File should not be affected by UK debt, credit card companies are 'global' these days and it might affect you if you need to apply for a card in Australia.
Before you 'try to sort out a deal' have a word with one of the Debt Counselling Charities to see what options might be available to you - such as a 'Full and Final Settlement Offer':- CCCS - https://www.cccs.co.uk/ - tel. 0800 138 1111
- National Debtline - https://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/ - tel. 0808 808 4000
- A Debt Adviser at your local CAB
If you want to look at a 'F&F' offer, have a read of the following National Debtline link before talking to the 'card companies':
http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=24_full_and_final_settlement_offers
Good luckI am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
