Training to become a driving instructor

After being made redundant from the print trade my good friend has been training to become a driving instructor.After a years + hard work he has failed his last test for the 2nd time today and has only one chance left!If he fails the next apparently he has no more chances and will have lost at least £4000 and a chance of a new career.He is 52 and has the ability to become a decent instructor,however we are concerned that the pressure on him to pass next time is so great it may prove to be a bridge to far.Surely if he fails again there must be other options open to him.Any advise gratefully received.He is working with BSM.

The rules are quite strict about passing the tests unfortunately.

I have been in the same boat myself and in the end had to walk away from it as the stress was too much. I failed all 3 parts, waited until my 2 years (from the date of passing Part 1) were up and tried again. In spite of being told I had what it takes it all seems to come down to the person with the clipboard. It cost me several thousand too but in the end I had to walk away.

If you have a PDI badge and don't pass Part 3 you have to stop teaching immediately and it is illegal to take any money or anything else in lieu of payment (incl petrol) for teaching someone to drive.
