Hello,
I need serious help. A few months ago my partner and I looked at a mortgage and how we go about getting one and a credit check was done without us finding a house, but our score was ok. Something TSB should not really have done, but they showed us the Key facts information sheet.
The next credit check was with Halifax. We went to an independant advisor and told him we have found a house, how much we have for a deposit, how much we want to pay monthly and our details of salaries etc. We left with the advisor to find the best deal for us. A few weeks passed and we called chasing it up. He said he had trouble with one of our address, but he evetually found a lender, Halifax. As our advisor went on holiday for 2 weeks and the house was slowly leaving our hands, we went into our local Halifax branch to go through all the details, after 2 hours it can out that we needed twice as much deposit as we have, and there was no way of getting more money.
We shopped around ourselves as our advisor was on holiday, we found Nationwide that just needed 15%, which we could afford. After filling details the next credit check was completed, it was declined. A level 4 which we was told we couldnt do anything about it. We asked why and the man said a number of reasons, one being the many credit checks we have had done...a total of 8!!!! We have no idea when the other checks were completed. Our advicor didnt say he was doing credit checks, and didn't show us the Key facts information sheet!!!!
So we dont think we can get the house as we cant get a mortgage. We need help in what the next step is! Is there anything we can do.
I am currently checking our credit score, mine is good and I am waiting for my partners rating to come back. But where do I stand on this issue.

Instantly save some money and don't pay to see your "score" from any of the Credit Agencies, as it will have no meaning to any other lender, but they will be grateful for your cash."Click the pennies. Collect the pounds."0

There is a MSE article here that mentions a Ray Boulger blogg about unnecessary credit searches by mortgage lenders ruining credit reports.
