Home made cards!

Hello. This is my first post. I hope that I'm posting this message in the right area. I have recently taken up the hobby of card making, which is a really fun pastime in addition to saving money. I have also sold some of my cards at car boot sales and have made a nice profit. Does anyone else make their own cards? If so, does anyone have any tips about good places to buy the bits and pieces or good card making websites?
Thanks very much!

Hi
Not sure if this is the right place to post but I will reply here anyway (am sure the mods will move if it not)
I too make my own cards and sell them onto to mainly friends and family at the minute at what I call a nice profit.!!I get real pleasure in making them, keeps me away from the shops on a weekend and makes me a little bit.
I have loads of websites that I use and I belong to one card forum that is really helpful and also has a shop it is Imag-e-nation The people who use the site are really helpful when it comes to finding shops of good value etc.. the shop attached to the forum is the cheapest around for peel offs and has a great selection.
I have loads of other sites in my favourites that I could send to you. PM me if you are interested.
Enjoy the card making!!
I also have my own site where I show my cards it is My Cards feel free to have a look for any ideas.0 -
Hi Claire,
Thanks for your message! I will check out the website you mentioned. I would also be interested for a couple of your other favourites, sorry I wasn't sure what PM is! I am a newcomer!

Hi - my Mum makes cards ( they are beautiful ) but she doesnt know how or where to sell them. Does anybody have any tips. I was going to put some on ebay but I dont think she will get much for them on there. I know she wont make her money back because she does spend ages on each card but it is a hobby for her so she isnt bothered about making all of her money back but some would be good to keep her going
Any tips or advice would be great.
The only tip that I can pass on is that she has a group of friends that all go to one house per week and they pool all of their card making stuff and make cards. Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -

As I said, I tried to sell some at a car boot sale with my friend. We both sold about five each, but that was only a tester and we only had 20 in all to choose from. If you can find a good car boot sale, and you have other things to sell then it is definately worth it to see if people were buying them. I don't know how expensive your mum's cards were to make, but myself and my friend sold ours for £1.25 or 5 for £5 and this made us a nice profit. I would suggest trying this once and it's quite fun! We are going to do another one in a few weeks with more cards to sell.
I would try the ebay thing once - we were thinking of doing that as well.
Other than that, family might want to buy them and give you the money, rather than a shop!Money money money!0 -
I buy my stuff for the cards from here http://www.readicut.co.uk/default.asp? The punches on this site are a fantastic price you get 5 huge ones that cut out about 6 pieces for about £10 for the 5 and I have just tried this site for the first time http://www.liz-craft.co.uk/. My mum gets my card for me as she gets it from one of those places where you fill a box up the best you can for a set a price. I haven't sold any just give them away to people for there birthdays etc. I made all my christmas cards last year and I felt really pleased about what I had achieved

Spotted that!! Have changed it, thanks :rotfl:0 -
If you have one nearby, The Papermill Shop is one of the places where you can fill a box of paper and card.

Hi All
I've been cardmaking for a good few years now, and my fave supplier is http://www.craftcreations.co.uk/
Their quantity discounts are not to be sniffed at, and I find them generally good to deal with.
Concentrating on making wedding invites at present, after all its all the same thing! Word of advice, don't take on two weddings at the same time! I have and its a nigh tmare! Granted, one is mine and one is my best friends, but I could never do it again.
One at a time please, ladies and gents..
