Also, I'd expect my family to be so pleased I'd made cake that they wouldn't dare moan about what kind it was :D

I agree... cake is a treat, not a right!
  • I too have one of these with TWO extra sets of inserts and have in the past made 9 small 4by4 fruit cakes at the same time! Yes, the timing needs ammending slightly and the individual lining of each section is fiddly but I wouldn't part with mine! I have loads of other tins of various shapes and sizes but THIS tin is my favourite, especially when it comes to cleaning, drying and storage... it comes apart very simply so there are no awkward corners to deal with and it stores back in it's original box, taking up slightly more space than an old fashioned double LP (showing my age now :-D). So my advice is definitely, GO FOR IT!!!
    Debts in March 2007:

    Argos Card £0 :j C Card £0 O/draft £0 :j
    Mortgage £96,000 (finally on a repayment mortgage :) )
    Getting there slowly .....

The only thing I don't like about mine is the way the dividers squeak against each other when you are assembling/disassembling. Talk about fingernails on a blackboard!! (I suppose only those of you pre whiteboards in school will know what I mean - my children look blank when I say that)
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

I have owned one of these for a couple of years.

If only they would make a circular version - my cupboard is full of different sizes of round tins!

I have one of these ( bought to make my wedding cake and it's our silver wedding this year so they do last;) ) - and I have circular inserts too which were bought around the same time - would it be worth contacting the manufacturer to see if they still do these?

where do you get the extra inserts? I don't often use my tin, but it saves having a stack of square ones, that I don't use much.

I like the idea of 4x4 fruit cakes. Individual servings one might say LOL!
