Where's best to buy your fruit, Veg & meat?

We prefer to use local farmshops. We have one we can get local meat pork/lamb/beef/FR chicken, cheese and FR eggs (can even see the animals on the farm looking happy and well looked after). The meat whilst not organic is outdoor reared and high welfare, as well as you knowing the breed and the date slaughtered/hung etc. In most cases it is either better quality and goes further than the supermarket but a bit more cost or it is same price or cheaper and better quality. Certainly FR eggs are vastly overpriced in the supermarkets.
We have another farm shop which does fruit and veg, but they keep expanding and do cheese, baking (done by the Mum), butter, cream, milk, salad dressings, majo etc and yummy icecream all local. There is even a fish stall once a week on the car park (really lol).
Both shops are local family run and it is a pleasure to shop there.
The local market is pretty good as well.
We are also starting to grow our own more and more (only in yr2 yet) and intend to get a couple of chickens soon.
Otherwise we do go to the supermarkets but shop around for best prices and quality. We go in aldi/morrisons the most but occasionally go in tesco, netto, lidl or sainsburys for the offers.
However I notice a huge difference in the quality of stuff from the local suppliers and the supermarkets who aren't even close. We also have a couple of good local butchers so are lucky really.

I've been really surprised at how good value the butcher is - cheaper or comparable than the supermarket in most cases. Our local farm shop is slightly more expensive for meat, but the quality is even better - so we get loads more out of the same weight you'd buy at the supermarket. Meat is very tender and no chewy gristley bits.
F&V - would love to get from a good greengrocer but is it me or have so many of these disappeared in recent years? Not that many good ones near us, so tend to buy this from supermarket, but do try to buy stuff in season.
too many comps..not enough time!0 -
I buy my meat from Costco. Its excellent quality and as I buy in bulk I only have to go say every 4-6 months for stuff like minced beef, lamb, beef, pork etc.
As for F&V - well Birmingham is the nearest place that has a market on and although the stuff is dirt cheap its far for me to go once a week to buy stuff and cart it all back home. Plus I don't always get to pick my own produce and I prefer to choose my own F&V. There is a local nursery that in the winter I get most things from (like large bags of spuds etc) but the rest of the time I buy from Sainsburys (unless there is something specific I want from Aldi super 6).
I'd love a local farmers market but when they hold them in my town centre they're nothing but up market posh deli type stalls.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
