Hi all
We are off for a week caravaning and I would greatly appreciate some ideas on how to keep the food bill down. Last time we went we spent a fortune on rubbish food and I don't want to do that again. We have a very small fridge with tiny freezer and cooker. Not sure if there any going to be Tesco's etc but if so, I guess shopping daily would be the best thing?
Any thoughts or experiences?

If you have a slow cooker, you could take this and let it do the cooking while you are out sightseeing.

When I last went camping I would call into the supermarket on the way back to the campsite and see what was reduced that I could cook on my little camping stove.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Don't forget dried & canned foods like pasta and rice (Instant mash in a pinch:eek:) Which can be used to make allsorts of nice recipes, like Tuna fish cakes (serve with a nice salad) etc.
I go camping and take a plastic crate type box which I put in all the usual condiments(Salt pepper, mustard &herbs), oil, packets of dried food/cans. Those sorts of bits really add up, so take them with you.
If you take a cool box, you can make something before hand and freeze it, then you have your first nights meal ready as it will defrost nice and slowly and you can just heat it up. Something like Spag Bol, a curry or stew works well.
We sometimes take the slow cooker but OH drew the line at the bread maker!:rotfl:
Why not check on-line to see where the nearest supermarkets are?

Hi
We had a touring caravan for a number of years when the children were younger. I used to take slices of cooked meat which could be warmed in the gravy, use either smash or tinned potatoes and tinned veg. Tinned or smash potatoes with stewed steak out of a tin. Or our favourite caravan stew, tin potatoes, tinned veg and tinned meat throw it in the pan done. Another favourite was to cook a batch of grey pays and bacon , freeze it and put it in cooler box when it had thrawed warm through and have with crusty bread.
We didn't have an oven in ours so we used to buy disposable BBQ's and cook outside burgers and sausages.
I also made a boiled fruit cake to take with us. Take lots of pasta boil it up with some tomato sauce add a few bits and pieces.
Hope this is of help to you.0 -
Try looking for camping recipes they are just as good for using in a caravan.
