Dental Fees Question

Hello
I had a root canal done about 3 months ago, for around £45. Ive had problems with it ever since, and have been back a few times. My dentist has said that if the latest treatment he has done doesn't work, I will either have to have it out, or go to a root canal specialist. If it does work I will need a crown
My questions are - 1) Is the specialist treatment available on the NHS? Would it be the cost of a normal root canal or would it be more? 2) Would this treatment / the crown - whichever I end up having be on top of the original root canal treatment I had, or would this fee be minus the treatment, as I have already had treatment - and it is all for the same issue?
Thanks for any help in advance!

Specialist endodontists are pretty much exclusively private, which means you'd have to pay private fees. For a molar (back) tooth it's usually about £5-600. Bit cheaper if it's nearer the front.
Once it's done, you could go back to your NHS dentist and have the crown done on the NHS for the £198 fee.
If you decide to have it out, that could be done on the NHS, but as it's more than 8 weeks since the treatment, it may well be another band 2 fee of £45. (I'm not 100% sure of this bit as I don't do any NHS - but I think 8 weeks is the limit)How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I just came on to post a similar question as i have been having problems with a bridge i had fitted two months ago. Last week when i saw the dentist she said if it hadn't resolved by the end of this week i will have to have it taken out and refitted. If i have to pay again i will be furious. It took me six months to save up the £200 for my bridge and i cannot afford to pay another £200. I am concerned as this has been going on for two months that my dentist will charge me again. The thing is i have no option but to have the bridge taken out as i have constant toothache from it and i am unable to eat on the left side of my mouth. On the back of my nhs form it states that the two month cut off is from completion of the work. I don't whether that means two months from the date they fitted the bridge or two months from the date that they have finished messing about with it and it is as it should be. Hopefully it's the latter.0
