new job and tax code

Ive just managed to get myself a part time job and am worried about my tax code.
Do i ring my official receiver to find out what my tax code is? I was self employed when i went bankrupt so not sure if this makes a difference.
My new employer has said to ring tax office and see what my tax code is or he can fill in p46 (i think) and i will be put on emergency tax.
I have not told him i am bankrupt and am worried if i have a nil tax code he will be asking me why. I have read you only have nil tax code if bankrupt or if you are a student working during holidays.
Dont really want him knowing i am BR, would rather put it behind me but am worried as it is such a small place i am working in with about 4 staff.

You won't have a nil tax code. A NT code is put in place on the employment you are in when you go BR, when you change jobs your tax code reverts to normal. So you will have a normal tax code.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

No you need to find your tax code from the tax office. Also let your OR know you are starting a new job and need a new form to fill in.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0
