in Cutting tax
I started work last october and earned £3500 until jan then my company went into administration but was then bought out by someone else who kept me on so i earned another £3500 until april i got my P60 in may but this only stated tax i had paid with new employer(basically Since jan) i never recieved a P45 from old company as administrators didnt want to pay out to supply these.
I the sent my P60 with cover letter and my pay slip from old company, Shwoing tax i had paid from oct till jan.Inland renue sent them back with a form for me to fill in well this week i recieved my tax back but only what i have paid since jan with new employer, I have been told i should recieve full amount.
I have phoned and explained yesterday that i paid more tax than i was getting back, she explained that customer services would look into it and phne me back in 5-10 working days what are chances of me getting back the other £350 that i paid before new company took over???????
Many Thanks

You don't say how much tax you paid.
What were you doing before October ? If you were working or claiming JSA or other benefits these are added to your income figures and tax is based on total income for the year.
From your employment it looks like you were paid 7000, take away the standard personal allowance of 6035, means you would be liable for approx 200 tax.
But if you put up all your earnings and tax code we can work out how much tax you are liable for. He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0 -
i paid £700 in tax from 0ct till april i only recieved £379 back as the calculation which came back states they worked it out based on pay from new company.
I was not working and not claiming benefits as my oh worked and i lived of his wage.
My oh took his P60 in to tax office and they said ihe should recieve a little but i should recieve £650 (around) but i sent mine in post.
But without P45 i have no proof of paying tax before jan!! can they check on there systems that i paid so much tax from such date.0 -
If their records aren't upto date and the administrators haven't sent in the P14 details then HMRC won't have details of any tax paid from the first company.
So contact the administrators and request either a P45 or a Statement Of Earnings (basically a letter on their letterheaded paper detailing what your pay and tax was for your period of employment)
If you are unable to get this, make sure you have all your payslips from both employers and they show tax being deducted.
If HMRC require further info, they will need to know the name and address of the administrators, and they will write to them requesting pay and tax details (all time consuming.)
As I don't know your code I can't do a proper calculation but heres a rough one.
Earnings £7000.00
Personal Allowance £6035.00
Taxable Income £965.00
Tax Due @ 20 % £193.00
Tax Paid £ 700.00
Already Ref'd £ 379.00
Remaining £ 321.00
Tax Due £ 193.00
Further refund £128.00
Obviously all the figures are approx. On your P60 it will state your final tax code.
I think you were on a week/month one code at your second job, but what code were you on at the first job, as you shouldn't really have paid any tax, if you started working so late in the tax year you would have had a lot of unused allowances building up from April. He's not an accountant - he's a charlatan0
