Car Boot Cake Stall

Hey all
I'm thinking of making a huge batch of cakes and biscuits and selling them at a car boot, I was at one the other day and the ladies doing it made nearly £1000!! I can bake nice cakes no problemo, but I'm struggling a bit to think of what to package them in? Anyone got any ideas? I'm thinking for the cakes a foil tray and some cling film would be ok, not so sure what to do for biscuits. The cheaper the better!
All ideas gratefully received!

I think the OP might have been talking about whole cakes for people to take away in which case, tupperware boxes might not be a good idea as it'd cost a lot if people are taking them away!
Foil trays with cling film sounds fine to me! You can usually pick up foil trays for cheap at pound shops and places like that. Maybe pick up some address labels and then you can label each cake too so people know what's in them.
Sounds like a good idea - hope it works out for you! Don't forget to factor in the cost of ingredients when pricing up your cakes!TWBM 2010 Wishlist:

I can imagine how much they make, these stalls always have people around them. What i find though at car boots and country fairs is i will only buy the things that are totally wrapped up in packets or cling film whatever, i dont like the thought of lots of people stood over the exposed food breathing on it.
Also one thing to remember is that sometimes health inspectors go round making sure that the people making these things have the permits for the area they make them, example, i could just got downstairs now and start whipping them up and selling things, id need a kitchen that was given the go ahead to do that as you will be selling to the public.Everybody Wants To be Happy.......Nobody Wants Any pain......But You Can't Have a Rainbow........Without Any Rain !!

I've seen biscuits sold, in their standard format tube shape, wrapped with thick wrapping paper and gathered at the ends to look like xmas crackers with the description and ingredients written on the gift tags, plus we are coming to that time of the year so your sales should do well. It has seasonal and novelty appeal. Good luck and hope you make some cash."Click the pennies. Collect the pounds."0

you do need to be registered with environmental heath
I have seen officers at my local car boot. They trace you by your car number plate
You will need your kitchen inspected yearly and insuranceMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!

I have seen this too, and the person in question had no hygiene certs etc and so had to pack up and go. That was an awful lot of cakes and buns for her to find use for.
Would hate for you to be working like a trojan all week and then get stopped for not having the relevant environmental checks.
We did a car boot on sunday and a scruffy looking man came looking at my OH's CDs. Turns out he was an inspector too, looking for counterfiet goods. I pointed him in the direction of someone selling a whole stall full!
In all the years I have sold/bought at car boots I have never seen inspectors and in the last couple of months I have seen two, so maybe they are clampng down.May £10 a day challenge£19.61/£310Ebay challenge...£12.61/£2000 -
My MIL makes cakes for fundraising and she uses larger versions of the muffin cases for small cakes and wraps them in cling film with a label on top. You can get them in cake decorating shops or sometimes cash and carry. Hope this helps.0

I never thought of the environmental health issue
. Thanks everyone for your replies though, I guess it's not such an easy way to make money after all! Will have to look into the cost of a permit.

i seem to remember the last car boot we did the flyer said no food to be sold. There was a stall selling cakes like you say you want to so think she was obviously registered with whoever you need to be registered with to do it!0
