How much QE?

Anyone fancy a punt on giving your thoughts on where QE will end?
I.e. 175bn, 250bn, 750bn etc etc.
Isn't a prediction thread, just trying to gain insights into peoples thoughts.
I'm going for a very uneducated stab in the dark. £325bn before they turn the tap off

Where will it end?????????????
In tears that's where.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -
Until they are happy the debt hole is plugged.
So many factors could change it, it is virtually impossible to judge that is why the drip where needed approach is better than the helicopter approach:)0 -

I know "something must be done" but I think ten % of the billions used as a more direct stimulus (build something, manufacture something) would have been more obviously useful than a kind of incestuous propping up of banks and buying government bonds.0 -
Sssshhhh.....between you and me, but...I know a bloke who knows a bloke who sells bulk ink on behalf of Epson.
Anyway....HMG have just ordered another 800,000 cartridges, all ink-jet colour.
Coincidence, perhaps, but how can we be sure? ...0 -

If both Lloyds and RBS can shrink their balance sheets , either by selling assets or by having a capital rights issue then QE may have finished.
Appears LLoyds is looking to raise more equity capital to avoid putting assets into the Governments insurance scheme.0 -
I think the BoE will just have to keep going (perhaps slowing down but not stopping) until it becomes clear that it is having an effect on the real economy. It would take a few more months for this additional £50B to get through the financial system.
I think the total might get as far as £250B by mid 2010, by then we should be able to see much more clearly the effects of this exercise. I think there would be hesitation about going much further than that amount if it works, as inflation concerns would be greater.0 -
