I am making lots of stews at the moment to save cash - I don't have time to buy the produce and cook a small single portion one each day. I have been keeping it in the huge pan in the fridge for about a week. How long will it last without me getting some unpronounceable disease. I could freeze them into small tubs but they never seem to have the right texture (the carrots, potatoes go very soft etc). I make diffrent ones, beef, pork, chicken and veg does this have an inpact on the lenght of time you can keep them? If this sounds a stupid question it is because I am a stupid poster.

Thanks in Advance

No such thing as a stupid question here adebisi. I'd say it would be ok for 4-5 days in the fridge as long as it was thoroughly re-heated when you ate it. You can tell if it's gone off, it goes sort of scummy on top and has bubbles too.
I wouldn't keep pork or chicken more than three days though. A bit risky.
You may be better cooking the meat first and then slightly undercooking the veg so you can freeze it in smaller portions. It will then finish cooking as you heat it up.

I'd keep any meat based stew 3-5 days;) I find it freezes well so long as there are no potatoes in it. Chunks of potato do seem to have a weird texture once they have been frozen.0

I always undercook my stew by about an hour if I am going to freeze it, because you are going to reheat the stew for an hour anyway. This way the veggies don't go to mush.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

A couple of days would be my limit for meat based stews - I'm a fussy beggerAll shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I find it will keep indefinitely if you heat it up thoroughly every day. (In fact it works without the fridge if you heat it twice)0

I only keep stew in the fridge for 2 days. I don`t see how we can cool it quickly enough for it to be safe to eat if kept too long. Bacteria count doubles every 20 mins at body heat0

once cooked, i keep the main pot in the fridge and dole out portions. Heat portions thoroughly. No wastage in heating up more food than you'll eat and we've kept some stews for 5 days in the fridge.
I normally cook most foods for the week on a sunday and we have what we fancy throughout the week. I spend a lot of Sunday cooking though0
