Dwp application

hello everyone,

i have just started applying for vacancy at DWP.It was enlightening to read the other threads on DWP.but i have two specific question.

The application comes to bit where it asks to you to wirte about the gaps of employment.can i aslo add about my other skills and expand my work experience in that bit.i can't find any specific question asking me about my previous work skills other than strict information about where you worked and start dates and end dates. This is not enough to shortlist i feel.

and about personal reference is it okay to input ex-line manager and ex collegue.or do i have to put details of personal friend.

thanks for you help in advance

  • I'm pretty sure they don't actually shortlist from this. When I applied for a DWP role it seemed like this phone was just an expression of interest in the position - and everyone would be invited to the next stage (which may well be an online assessment). So there's no need to give any more information that what is requested.

Don't know about the reference thing - I put two friends. I don't understand why you wouldn't want to do that? Your friends never know if you've ever been late for work! However from reading these boards you are not the only one.

I put two ex-managers as references, and that was fine.

I think it's best to stick strictly to the information asked for. You don't want to be turned down because you can't follow simple instructions.
I think they accept people based on their answers to the competency questions.

theres no point expanding on the form, just put what they ask for. its only like attaching your cv which they would never read because they havnt asked for it.

i dont think they shorlist you from app form anyway, since the online test its the case that everyones gets invited to do the test and that decides whether or not you get interview!

previously when they did english/numeracy test the application had an extra part of questions to complete whereby you were shortlisted on the scroe you recieved for this.
  • It said on mine, personal references but not friends and no work references, must have known you longer than 5 years. I was like 'Who the hell am i going to put?!' I ended up putting some of my parents friends, who know me well but i would not class as 'friends'. Family acquaintances i called them. I hope that will be okay?
