See if you can find an independent wholefood shop near you. They will often stock a far better range of basic ingredients than the big supermarkets do. A lot bag them themselves or can get the wholesaler to do it so with notice you can usually request larger bags.
If you have an M&S near you it is part of their product range, they generally have lots of other fairly unusual grains and pulses although not always in stock.
It is crazy that risotto rice is so hard to find...I consider it to be a storecupboard basic but sometimes have trouble finding it.0 -
Maybe OP went to Tesco after us on Sunday, as we bought all that were on the shelves - mind you, it was only 5 packs... I intend to do the same next time I do my weekly shopping - we have plenty of storage in the garage...
Ahhh, so it was you was it!
I think I'll pinch the idea and buy a few packs at once, I might give the barley a go, sounds good0 -
I got a kg pack of arborio (vac pack) at Lidl yesterday off their Italian promo stand. Think it was about £2"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I have also used pudding rice in an emergency. It comes out softer but perfectly acceptable0
