What is the job market like in OZ?
How about a change in life style?
Perhaps a little radical but from what you have said things here are not too good and at least in OZ you will get a tan!
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

    sparklebum,

You have been told the JCP guidelines on this issue, and people have offered ideas of how you could work around your predicament. Rather than letting this thread go off topic (as it appears to be doing), is there any other information that you need?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Thanks to those with constructive comments - for those who seem angry that I appear to be expecting too much; I apologise. I hope that none of you are ever in the situation that we are in.

    Thanks again.

You're in a tough place sparklebum but I'm afraid that's the price of having family in two continents. My husband and I might face a similar problem in the future, with one of us needing extended leave from work - so how will we pay the mortgage?- but at least ours is within the EC.

You have the choice of taking the children - who of course could travel with you perfectly well, even if it's the journey from hell, or of temporarily 'leaving' your husband who will then qualify for benefits as he is the carer of young children. What would happen with your mortgage interest payments would then depend on whose name the mortgage is in, I guess.

While you were over there you may be able to arrange for some interviews for your husband, who is entitled to 2 weeks holiday from signing on while on JSA I believe - but you'll need to check that out for yourself to be certain.

If your Mum is willing to remortgage her house and pay for you, your husband and three children to fly to Australia to stay with her, wouldn't it be more practical for her to use that money to pay for an Australian carer to help her?
