I wish my debt was gone!

Options
Hello

I’ve watched these boards from a distance for a long time now – it’s really helped me get through my sleepness nights!

I was 18 when I bought my house with my boyfriend (we had been together since we were like 11 & lived together at our parents etc. It was time to move on .. ) – I always said I would never use an O/d but I did. Then I got a CC to pay off the O/D and racked up another one etc.

My family have paid off one overdraft for a large amount of money, and I still have one for £660.

Up until a few days ago he didn’t know about this last one, was too ashamed. He always said he would leave me if I did it again he couldn’t go through more debt (v. sensitive) So I was having a meltdown. Anyway, his reaction was well, not very good. But he has been so supportive and has taken such a weight off me! We worked out our SOA (on paper otherwise I would of posted it! – will do once I get around to it..). We wasn’t any more happier when we was spending pointless amounts of money ‘trying’ to have fun and make or lives perfect than we are now.. We have cut down on our take-aways, restaurants, buying pointless random bits that neither of us really care about! And now the money we do have left over after all the bills we are much more appreciative of. I have read lots of posts on here of people scared to tell there other halves but honestly, if you can I really would tell them. It’s helps muchies! – Although these boards do pretty much the same thing =) x

Anyways, I’ve joined the ebay challenge on here, I want to try and pay off as much of the £660 from other incomes.. I have looked at a few of the other challenges but haven’t found any that are quite as easy as ebay.. or they don’t sound it. Which one’s do people recommend? Success stories would be great inspiration (although I do pagestalk the boards looking at peoples sig’s!)

Made £67 pounds in a week to go towards it! – Not bad because I haven’t made much effort to be honest! – Will try and put some on tonight!

Changed my sky package today .. saved £27 a month. Going through my DD’s and I’ve found one for insurance for an old mobile phone, I still have the same number on the contract but it’s a different model so the insurance is no good, am I allowed to just cancel the direct debit through online banking, or do I have to let the insurance company know?

  • I didn't want to read and run but I just wanted to wish you every sucess in your challenge. You'll probably find the Upyourincome board helpful at looking at ways to generate cash. Ebay once you get into is it a great way at de-cluttering your house and paying off your debts.

I would post you your SOA on here. All the friendly experts on here can highlight ways that you can reduce, save or elinimate.

I would also add that budgeting is really important and links in with what you think you are spending against what you actually do spend. The difference is generally debt.

Take small challenges or steps forward and you will achieve your goals. Lots on other on here will come along and post later but put up your SOA when you can.

Good luck! :TYou've taken the hardest step already.

Thank you for not reading and running! Much appreciated =o) .. I will definatley do my SOA once I have a spare second! Me and the fella have done one together and cut down on lots and swapped things but a fresh pair of eyes and some of the experts on here would I’m sure be able to pick something else out!

Feeling quite positive today, going to try and put some bits up on ebay tonight but I’ve been so busy lately, I’m slacking!

Things I want to achieve today

    Ebay at least five items
Post my 3 outstanding ebay items
Finish my to do list at work
Try not to let the mean lady at work get me down and make me worry!
Look at the upyourincome board and find some new challenges
Try and find out where you all make your amazon vouchers.. (surveys?) would love to make some to put towards a new telly.. it may take a while but it would take longer if I didn’t!

hi and welcome to the boards, i would tell the mobile insurance company just in case, you know what they are like, trying to charge you for bounced DD's etc.
Have a look at the scratch cards on the up your income board, it's tedious but has netted me £100 since the new year and i've only won £5 once so it's just the normal 10p's & 25ps

am I allowed to just cancel the direct debit through online banking, or do I have to let the insurance company know?

Contacting both the insurance company and your bank in writing to cancel the DD would probably be the easiest thing to do. 'Recurring payments' like this can come back to bite you on the bottom if you just cancel DDs online in my experience.

Follow the advice given by some of the earlier posters and you can't go far wrong. Wishing won't make your debts go away, but taking action to sort them out will and you're already moving in the right direction :)
  • Well today I woke up feeling positive and now feel like poo!

I was really geared up to make lotsa money on ebay, and my paypal has completely messed up. I clicked on 'verify' a few days ago, and it said if your not a business choose 'non profit/charity' so i did, and now they want an exemption of tax certificate, a cancelled cheque and something else so they will lift my limit, luckily i withdrew some of the money from the account but stil have £33 in there.

There is no way i can give them the documents because i dont have them, i just sell my unwanted things :( im not an organisation or a charity. I have emailed them to explain but something tells me they wont understand. Fingers crossed.

I know there are other ways to put money towards my debt but none seem to work for me as well as ebay does. I am so mad and gutted and rarrrr..

Really have to rely on little things now but just feel like 'whats the point' ohhhh i've been feeling so good too.

    Boo :(

Yay paypal is fixed and I am never ever going to take it for granted ever again! I felt terrible today – I really had relied on my ebay sales to help with O/D and I went into panic mode when it had gone!

I read lots of horror stories on here about how they were really terrible to deal with, but the lady I spoke to (although rather difficult to understand) she was really nice and too me through everything step by step & I didn’t get put on hold! So yay paypal lady!

I cant wait to get selling tonight, ive just popped some cheap perfume on now and I’ve got a bid for £1.50 already! – I can’t believe I get excited over £1.50 but on these forums it really proves pennies make pounds and pounds make hundreds – millionaire-ism here I come! Okay, maybe I’m a little too excited.

Also, this morning whilst I was in my sad mood I decided I am not happy with my job. I have been looking at lots of courses I want to do (although money is a factor!!) but I’ve seen a few jobs that I’ve usually turned away from thinking I wasn’t good enough but I have everything they are looking for apart from one qualification which they would put me through (I already work within the organisation!!)

Downside, I haven’t had any annual leave for ages – planned on squeezing some in (I have four weeks left to take) and we got an email around saying we can only have two weeks between September & the end of march! =o( SWINE FLU! I could handle two weeks if I had already had a holiday recently but I haven’t and I am so exhausted with all my worrying/working, I just want a rest L but I have to plan carefully because I really want some time off at Christmas!
