Tesco/M&S meal deals....any good?

Just wondered what people think of these. I was nearly seduced by the Tesco one which features ,what they claim is £9.00 bottle of wine and some rather unappealing ready meals!
Of course the psychology is that I am getting something for nothing but the food didn't appeal.

I can see the appeal for those who cant cook, or who dont have time, or who cant be bothered to cook.

But even subtracting the cost of the wine - you will be able to make the ready meals home made - they will cost less, you will get more for your money and probably ingredients left over.

never tempted - never bought ready meals, could never afford it. i make HM every night - i quite like cooking - so if its a special meal then i am happy to break out the cookk books.

We discovered a rather nice bottle of white doing the M&S deal a while back.
I do succumb, from time to time, probably because of the puddings. We rarely make ourselves pudding, and some of the M&S ones are lush.

I don't buy ready meals any other time, and I don't buy cooking sauces as a rule, so I figure we deserve a treat sometimes!

Tesco are/were doing one for £5 as well. The £9 is from the finest range and includes wine.

The £5 meal I had was a large chicken & bacon pasta bake, 3 x garlic bread and a large tiramisu.

I would go for it again without doubt.

The M&S meal deals are fantastic. Whenever they have the offer on, I make it a priority to go! And I certainly wouldn't say their "ready meals" aren't appealing, they are lovely :D
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

  • I am a good OS cook, but at the moment I'm working flat out, teaching at university and also writing my dissertation.

The meal deals are making life worth living.... Last week the Tesco one had a bottle of £10.99 sparkling wine which will be opened when the bl**dy dissertation gets finished! I really like the Tesco Finest Moussaka, so it works out as good value.

Having said that, when I have more time I probably won't bother as much, as I really like cooking. But it's a great way of getting a nice bottle of wine, a yummy pudding and a bag of posh salad at a good price, never mind the main courses.

I can't justify the M&S ones for £10 a pop as thats a third of our weekly shopping budget on one meal!

But I am very very lucky as my mum buys us one every few months as a pick me up when I've had things like ofsted, Parents evenings and reports to get through and too tired to cook as my other half can hardly make toast without settin fire to the kitchen!

I see them as a treat because they come with alcohol and aa pudding which we never usually have ... but they are far too pricey to be a regular thing :o
