Reclaiming University Accomidation Bond?

Hi Guys,

After studying at university for the past two years, i have now decided to leave, and just remembered that at the start of my first year i paid a £200 deposit on my accomidation.

After i moved halls in my seond year, i was told that there had been damage to the halls, therefore i would be required to top up the deposit by another £140, to take it back to £200, to compensate for the cost of the damages.

Now this was nothing to do with me, i had no part in any damage, which was things like extra cleaning, vandalised appliences etc, so i ignored this and did not pay the extra £140 deposit, but i still managed to move halls without anyone really bothering.

Now i have left, i would like to go about reclaiming the full £200 if possible, or at the very least the £60. I am sure that the uni has no proof or evidence that i played any part in any wrong doings, so is it their right to share the damages amongst evrybody? This is something that evrybody wa upset with as a couple of people out of the 60 or so in halls were the offenders. Also none of us wanted to come forward with names and such, as the offender would have been removed from halls.

Basically i would like any advice on where i stand legally before i start to protest, as i am sure they will try to tell me that all my deposit will have been used somehow or another. If they cnnot provide any proof of my involvment i cant see how they have the right to my £200!
