Help should my hob be doing this?

Hi, apologies if this is in the wrong place but I was after some advice. I have recently purchased an indesit electic hob from comet. A couple of times after using it I had noticed there was smoke coming out from under the hob and in the gaps between the hob and the worktop surface. Also the whole top of the hob not just the plates are schorcing. I don't mean a bit warm either I mean like nasty burn if you put your hand on it. I rang Comet and the eventually sent me a new one and took the old one away, I've just got the electrician to come and fit it and its exactly the same. When all 4 rings are on smoke is coming out from everywhere and you can feel the heat from the hob hit you as soon as you open the kitchen door. The entire hob top is boiling. The grey sealant stuff were the hob meets the worktop has all melted as well.
Someone please tell me this is not right! I've only ever had a glass top hob before and that was fine, the rings got hot but not anywhere else. I just think if I ring comet back they might just tell me it get lost as they already replaced one.

Many thanks

That definitely doesn't sound right to me! I used to have an electric hob in my previous flat and it never did anything like that. I think you should be in a good position to insist that Comet replace/repair it again - it's pretty dangerous if it's getting that hot.
Back after a very long break!

No that's definitely not right, was it the same electrician who fitted both? did you explain to him, and ask his(or her) opinion. This would really worry me. Do not use it any more and make sure you turn it off at the main power when not using it. Go back to Comet today and demand your money back, it's definitely not fit for purpose.

Thank -you for the replies, was being to think it was me! Yes it was the same electrican both times, he said its definiatly nothing wrong with the wiring etc as he has just rewired that part of the house as we have recently moved in and there were not enough sockets etc in the kitchen. He said you might expect the top to get a bit warm but not like it is.
I have rung comet today and are sending an engineer out on Thursday to look at it, I did tell them thought that I do not want another replacement of the same hob, I will get another one so regardeless of whther they will refund me or whether I will have to argue with them I am going to buy another one anyway, so if anyone has any advice about decent hobs I would be greatful. Dont really mind what it is as long as its electir?
    Thanks again

Go to the Consumser Direct website, they have lots of good advice about buying goods and your rights as a consumer, they also have a telephone adviceline. On their site they have really good template letters, and they have one for rejecting an item/demanding replacement if it's not fit for purpose, which I would say yours probably is. Don't waste your money and don't be fobbed off, if it's not fit for the job, and it's the same model twice, there's either a design or batch issue, and it's not unreasonable for you to request a different make and or model.

As for recommendations, I have a Belling ceramic/glass hob, which I love, it has no knobs as such, and is a dream to keep clean.

Good luck, please report back and let us know how it goes.
