Deals on Mini's !?!?!?!

Hi,

After chickening out of buying something more exotic i'm seriously contemplating buying a new mini cooper s.

Via honest john i discovered that your can get almost £1500 discount from drive the deal.

Not a big fan of the internet experience and if need be would rather pay a little more and deal direct with a dealer.

Has anyone recently purchased a mini? Is this sort of discount achievable from a main dealer?

Have you tried carfile? They are brokers but they pass you to the main dealer to deal direct. Im getting a VW through them under the scrappage scheme.
  • Thanks for the suggestion but they only offer £500 discount, it seems from the mini website that this is a standard marketing offer so i'm pretty sure i could get that without trying.

£1500 seems to be the most any of the brokers are offering. I'm pretty sure there is sufficent margin in the mini for them to do this level of discount for Joe bloggs if they wanted i'm just trying to establish whether in practise they do or not. The other way to find out is get on the phone and start shopping but i'd rather not do that as it wastes everyones time.
  • I have used Carfile and can recommend them !! give them a ring and see what they can do for you ?? point out the drive the deal price

Drive the deal seem okay to deal with but they do not take part ex in as far as I am aware .
Dealdrivers when I contacted them they were a waste of space I found there attitude very arrogant but maybe I just got them on a bad day

I saved over 30% on the list price of my Cooper S Clubman buying it at a year old. The service from my dealer is second to none and I have absolutely no concerns about buying used as I know I will be looked after. My last Mini was a Cooper a few months old with very low mileage and I saved £3000. I've had brand new cars before and there's simply no difference for me as long as I get the colour and the toys I want as the cars are mint still.

MINIs are individual but the website is great as you can search for 'cherished' MINIs nationally which means you can look for the ones that tick the right boxes for you.

Drive the deal are will pass you on to a UK main dealer and all your dealings will be with the main dealer. The contact you sign will be with the main dealer and thats who you pay. If you don't have a part exchange you really can't beat them
The brother in law has purchased both throught them and through broadspeed with no problem

Thanks but Drive the deal aren't offering any discounts on Mini's.
  • ]Just to clarify I'm interested to know what discount people have acheived on a brand new car from a mini dealer!

I have a part exchange and i'd rather not deal with a broker as they are simply taking a cut which i could have as discount - unless of course it transpires that a private punter can't get any discount but i don't beleive that for a second - according to Mini's website there is at least £500 discount up for granbs.

It does not quite work like that !! the broker I believe will put the car through there fleet department hence the better discount !!
I am not saying it is not impossible to strike a deal that is just as good with a local dealer !! I have done this before by just saying to the dealership if you will match the deal offered by the broker I will buy from you but you need to know what your car is worth as a trade in ???

And that £500.00 is probably the best you will get.
Why would a dealer offer a larger discount than necessary to sell cars?
It appears that Minis sell very well and there simply isn't the need to offer further incentives.
The margin may be there, as you say, but of course the dealer would prefer to keep it for themselves if they can.

You prob already know that they are not keen to give discounts and it is true, you really have to drill them to get anything out of them - I think it's quite easy for them with the rep that they have and also the fact that they are so highly customisable that people get picky about their exact spec; I've not seen a car exactly the same (even externally, let alone internally) as either of mine. Fifth gear managed to get £1300 off a new Cooper by ringing around every dealer going - that was back in the depths of the doom and gloom though - whether it is still like that I don't know.

If they are up for a deal they will do it. I bargained really hard on my one before this and only managed £500 off £14500 but that was back then. The other car I was looking at point blank refused to discount it at all despite me telling them I would buy it there and then. They did have a deal back earlier in the year where they were giving away upgrade packs but a couple of days after that finished they wouldn't even entertain me as it would be the dealer giving the discount, not MINI.

I bought my in-laws brand new Mercedes through either drive the deal or broker4 cars, I can't remember which but they had no dealings at all, they simply put me through to a main dealer about 150 miles away. We then went round everywhere locally trying to get a price match which no-one would do so I'd dispute that they're taking discount you can get anywhere.

What might be an idea is leasing? There were some pretty good deals going about three months back. You'll always get spanked on extras though.

Derek Woodman in Blackpool seem to have a very good reputation for doing a deal on parts so maybe they will do a deal on a car. I live nowhere near but the feedback they get on the Mini forums is excellent. The other way is finding a good friend with a car to scrap - they are giving the genuine £2000 away on that.
